DIVORCE

In Oregon a divorce is referred to as “Dissolution of Marriage” or “Dissolution of Domestic Partnership.”

If the parties are in agreement to the terms of the dissolution they can file as Co-Petitioners, this is called uncontested or stipulated.  If the parties are not in agreement this is would be contested.

CUSTODY

If the parties have joint children, the custody and parenting time of those children will need to be considered.   The best interest of the child or children is what determines custody and parenting time

Oregon requires parents to attend mediation and to complete an online parenting class.

PARENTS OF CHILDREN

Unwed parents of a minor child or children will need to determine custody, either joint or sole custody, who will be the residential parent and what will the parenting time for the non residential parent be.

Most counties in Oregon have a standard parenting plan that can be modified to fit the needs of the parents and children.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Alimony in Oregon is called Spousal Support. There are three types of spousal support:

  • transitional
  • compensatory
  • maintenance

The Oregon Spousal Support Calculator can be used in helping to determine spousal support.

Child Support is calculated using the Oregon child support calculator and is based on income of both parents, number of overnights the child spends with each parent, child care expenses and provision of insurance by either parent.
